An Islay whiskey through and through, the provenance of this Octomore expression is unrivaled. The complex flavor of the earth that raised the barley and classic peat smoke define the character of this whisky, speaking to where it comes from. Malt sugar aromas and delicate peat smoke, followed by layers of fresh green fruit followed by rose, geranium, apricot and eucalyptus. Marzipan, ginger biscuits and melon can also emerge, with the malty fruit character emerging with some time. Adding a drop of water will make the peat smoke stand out beautifully. Soft and delicate on the palate, honey and brown sugar give way to a whisper of peat smoke. The second sip brings lemon zest and seashells, a delicate marine hint together with notes of malted biscuit, marzipan and coconut. The peat smoke has hints of ash, but is delicate enough for the subtle malty floral notes to shine through.
