Description
The Oban distillery is one of the most ancient in the whole of Scotland and its history is closely connected with that of the homonymous town in which is located. The small town is in fact developed around the distillery, founded in 1794, has constituted from the beginning the focus of the life of the local community. Its founders, John and Hugh Stevenson also remembered for having founded the town.
Nose: Very mineral, coastal, with notes of marine algae, freshly cut lawn and the lemon just mentioned. And’ possible to grasp the cherries that give it a bit of sweetness, then back on the character, the more sour with notes of orange juice and a hint of smoke. There is also a touch of honey mixed with caramel. Undoubtedly, particular smell and very distinctive although contrasting between the sweet and the bitter.
Palate : medium-bodied, it presents you with vanilla, pleasant woody notes, honey, but also toasted nuts, especially hazelnuts, and a slightly alluded to the tip of the almond. Back briefly to the cherry, but predominant, with an essence of malt, very full and dense. And’ possible to see also a note of leather, dried spice and background which give it a touch – like Bourbon. Also here, as in the sense of smell, shows a contrast between the two facets of the whisky: one side sweet and the other notes that tend to be tangy and sour. Overall, interesting but not fully integrated.
Final : Moderately long, somewhat dry and with a pleasant hint of sea breeze. At the same time is lively and fresh.
