Description

Origin: Guadalupe

Type: Rhum Agricole of Guadalupe, produced from sugar cane juice

Alembic: single column

In recent years, Rhum Bologne has become a point of reference in the Rhum Agricole panorama.

HISTORY

The Bologne family arrived in Guadalupe in 1654 and decided to build the sugar refinery on the fertile soils of the Soufrière (on volcanic soils). In 1830, Jean-Antoine Ame-Noel, who was the first black man "free from birth" to become the owner of a rather large land (114 hectares), passed by and in 1887 the sugar refinery became a distillery. Years of mixed fortunes followed until 1930 when Louis Sargenton-Callard acquired the distillery. With great patience he rebuilt the original property by also acquiring the nearby Beauvallon and La Coulisse. In addition, Louis invests in the acquisition of new land in the eastern part of the volcano, making the distillery independent from the supply of sugar cane.

THE TERROIR AND THE DISTILLERY

Rhum Bologne is one of the very few distilleries in the world to distil exclusively the juice of its own sugar cane. The distillery in fact owns the sugar cane plantations which are located on exceptional volcanic soils crossed by the sea breeze. Each parcel is planted with the optimum sugarcane variety for the terroir. Furthermore, by independently managing the harvest, Rhum Bologne greatly reduces the time that passes from harvest to arrival at the distillery, minimizing the risk of oxidation.

STYLE

The Bologne rums are characterized by a distillation style that favors the expression of the territory and the variety of the cane, finesse and elegance. Bologne remains the last Guadalupe distillery that distills in a copper column "Savalle" from 1965, which allows you to reach the maximum expression of aromas. The distillate comes out of the single column at about 70 ° and all the aged rums are refined in the tropical climate of the island.
